Upcoming Discussion Group:
A Study Group On Respectful Parenting
A FREE group brought to you by
The Little Makers Preschool Community
This is a study circle for people who are passionate and/or curious to learn more about RIE. In each meeting we will discuss, share, and learn about one of the eight chapters in Your Self-Confident Baby: How To Encourage Your Child’s Natural Abilities From The Very Start, by Magda Gerber, founder of RIE.
RIE stands for Resources for Infant Educarers©. RIE is a holistic practice in the art of caring for children. It emphasizes respect for the child as a whole and valid person, a person who knows and is capable of communicating her/his own needs in a variety of ways. While acknowledging the wisdom and experience parents bring to child caring, RIE helps parents develop additional techniques and a language for learning from the child about her/his needs. It also demystifies the expectations implicitly embedded in the ways parents and childcare providers interact with children, and techniques to become more mindful of those expectations. RIE comes to us from a number of theoretical practice models and numerous clinical studies, and is steeped in over 60 years of practice.
If you are a parent (new or seasoned), an expectant parent, or if your profession is in the birth process or early childhood education, you are most welcome to join our little study group. There are 8 spots available (adults only).
The first study group will be meeting Friday, January 20, 2017, and the last study group will be meeting Friday, April 28, 2017. The group is from 2:00p – 3:30p, meeting every two weeks.
Meetings will take place at Little Makers Preschool in West Asheville. Please bring your copy of Your Self-Confident Baby: How To Encourage Your Child’s Natural Abilities From The Very Start, by Magda Gerber, to each group meeting. Please also bring a pen and some paper/pad if you would like to make notes on our discussions.
Light snacks and tea will be provided at each study group meeting.
